GOW vWallpaper for iPhone

Description

For those of you that own a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch running vWallpaper, and enjoy Gears Of War, of course. This is a video wallpaper for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The cog is animated and rotates endlessly. The quality of the video isn't as good as this flash due to the .swf to .mov conversion. And after about 10 loops, you see a short hiccup. But that's all that is wrong with this.

Short tutorial on how to install:
(Please skip to step 3 if you already have a jailbroken idevice. Skip to step 4 if you already have vWallpaper. And skip to step 5 if you already know how to SSH into your device)

Download the GOWvwallpaper.mov file from here [link]

1. You'll need a jailbroken iPhone or Ipod Touch.
You may need to do some searching and studying if you aren't at this point yet. Be careful when you jailbreak your device, you can really screw it up. But if you follow the instructions carefully and understand what you are doing, you'll be fine. Youtube and Google is the place to start, just search "How to jailbreak iphone" and be sure to find instructions that fit your circumstances. There are different jailbreaks for different types of idevices and iOS's, so find the one that's for you.

2. You'll need the Cydia app on your idevice.
This app comes pre-installed once you jailbreak. You can find it on your springboard (the iPhone/iPod equivalent to a PC's desktop).

3. Now you need the vWallpaper app to run videos as wallpapers.
Once in Cydia, choose your user interface, let it reload data, and let it load the packages. When that's done, click the "Manage" tab, then click the "Sources" bar, then click the "edit" button, then the "add" button. Then a pop up will pop up that says "Enter Cydia/APT URL." The first 7 characters of the web address will already be typed in, so just type in "i.danstaface.net/deb/" and click "Add Source." Cydia will do it's thing, and when that is done, click the button (it should say something like "Return To Cydia," "Restart Springboard," or "Reboot Device." Whichever, just do it) After that, go back into Cydia, click the "Search" tab, and search for "vWallpaper." Install the one that works with your iPhone's iOS (either 3.x or 4.x) Cydia will do it's thing again.

4. You need to SSH into your phone now.
SSH is a way to get into your devices system and see all it's folders and content. To do this, you need to search for and install OpenSSH from Cydia, and either WinSCP (for PC) or PuTTy (for Mac). I don't have a Mac so I can't tell you how to SSH into your device with it. But I do have a PC with WinSCP so I will explain. Find, download, and install WinSCP from the internet. Have your device connected to the same WiFi connection that your PC is on. Open WinSCP and you will need to add some info. First, you'll add your devices ip address, which can be found on your device in Settings>Wi-Fi then click the blue arrow next to the connection you are on. Next you will need to enter "root" as the user name, "alpine" as the password and select "SCP" as the File Protocol. Then login. The first time logging in, you might get an error, or a "Try Again" alert. Just click "ok." You might have to try again, or it might just log you in right away. Either way, that only happens the first time you SSH into your device with WinSCP. And you will be able to login fine after that, provided you used the correct login information I gave you.

5. Now to find the correct directory.
Don't touch anything yet. Remember where you downloaded my GOWvwallpaper.mov file. Now, in WinSCP, carefully go up a few directories until you are in the <root> directory. Now go here: private>var>mobile>Media>Skrew>Videos. Now grab the GOWvwallpaper.mov file from wherever you have it on your PC, and drag it into the Videos folder in WinSCP. You may get a pop up that says "copy," go ahead and do that. Now you can close WinSCP once that is done.

6. Now to set the vwallpaper as your wallpaper.
On your idevice, open vWallpaper, select "Video Wallpaper," turn "Enable video" on, and click "Select video to play." Find "GOWvwallpaper and select it. A pop up will ask you to use that video, click "Yes i want!" Now click your home button to close vWallpaper and let the springboard respring if it needs to. When it's done, turn your device back on and the Gears Of War video wallpaper should be running in full force.

And that's it. I hope you like the wallpaper!
